Anyone who’s known me for more than 10 minutes is well aware that I’ve long been a huge fan of both Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. The idea popped into my mind to trace their steps as they moved through their careers throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s on course to someday grace each other’s presence.

During those years, they each established themselves not only as being among the most famous and popular people in history, but also as peerless icons in their respective fields. That set the stage for their eventual collaboration in April 1992.

1982

Jordan, a very talented freshman at the University of North Carolina becomes nationally known for the first time ever on March 29, 1982. This is when the 19-year old high flier drilled the winning jumper in the NCAA championship game vs Georgetown, giving the Tarheels a 63–62 victory in the New Orleans Superdome.

About two weeks later, 23-year old superstar Jackson stepped into Westlake Studios in West Hollywood, California with mega producer Quincy Jones. They…
